The World Famous "JUPITER" cover
The famous cover adressed to Amsterdam, artfully franked with horizontal pairs of 2 and 3 skilling together with single copy and block of four of 4 skilling Oscar with beautiful cancellations "Jupiter 28.7.1860" making the 30 skilling summer rate to the Netherlands. The cover has been delivered directly onboard S/S "Jupiter" on its route from Bergen to Hamburg. Black "K.D.O.P.A. Hamburg 29.7" on the reverse and blue butterfly cancellation "Hamburg 29 JUL 1860" on the front. Boxed "FRANCO" is a Dutch marking. "5" sgr = 14 sk. is the p ostage from Hamburg to destination (3 sgr. for Germany and 2 sgr for Holland). This cover has been widely acknowledged for its beauty ever since it first came on the market, and is beyond doubt one of the highlights within Norwegian philately. Certificate: F.C.Moldenhauer.
