The cover is endorsed "via Hull" and marked "UNPAID RATE" and "8" pence to be paid. The only recorded cover with this rate sent to England. Excellent item.

The receiver had to pay 1 shilling according to endorsement. The stamps are cancelled with british numeral cancellation "383" (Hull) and the cover is sidemarked octogonal "HULL SHIP-LETTER OC 25 1857" in blue. Covers with stamps cancelled "383" are very rare, and a light filing crease through one 3 skilling, does not affect this excellent exhibition piece.
